KIANDUTU BREWERS ATTACK CHIEF
Komu Location Chief Daniel Waiguru, was on Saturdayattacked
by unknown people in Kiandutu slums during a raid against illicit brews. He is
alleged to have been accompanied by his two assistants when the attack happened
but were lucky to escape without injuries.
This prompted Thika Town MP Alice Ng’ang’a to call on the
government to introduce risk allowances to all the chiefs and their assistants.
According to the legislature, the ongoing war on illicit liquor endangered the
lives of these administrators as they were not armed.
“These people are always armed and we need to arm the
chiefs too or else give them a special allowance to motivate them to engage the
brewers. It’s risky for them to conduct the raids,” Ng’ang’a said.
She added that police officers in
Thika could not always accompany the chiefs during the raids as they were
engaged in patrolling the area where crime incidencts are
increasingly on the rise.
Speaking at Thika PCEA Church after
visiting the chief at his home, the legislator called upon her constituents to
support the fight against brewing and inform the chiefs anytime they have
information to make it easier for them to tame the incidences.
