Central Organisation of Trade Unions – Kenya (Cotu-K) has declared its full support for the enhanced National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) even as it dismissed reports of division among workers with regards to effecting deductions. Cotu move even as NHIF CEO Simon Kirgotty promised to consult the workers’ union on the controversial enhanced rates that took effect this month refuted claims that he was sidelining some stakeholders and maintained that the Fund has the needed capacity. Secretary General Francis Atwoli on Friday assured workers that NHIF had observed the agreement signed after consultations held in Mombasa in September last year and the only missing service was for Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) but has since been clarified and would reflect in the Fund’s website for all service providers to see. “Cotu has a 2.5 million membership and when we append a signature, we do it as workers and cannot say there are divisions. We want to make NHIF a pool where all workers can benefit,” assured Atwoli, who spoke at a joint press conference held at Solidarity Building.
