THIKA ROADS UPGRADE
The construction of the Sh221 million Kenyatta Highway upgrade to a dual
carriage way, aimed at addressing the problem of traffic jams, begun
yesterday. The project will also see the installation of street and
traffic lights.
That part of the road at Gatitu had been a nightmare for motorists entering and exiting the town. Thika roads have been overwhelmed by traffic backup after the commencement of expansion works to entrances and exits in Thika Town. The expansions are meant to reduce traffic jams that have been there since December last year.
The county government is also constructing the footpaths for the pedestrians to give way for vehicles and tame the numerous accidents caused by the bodaboda operators on the roads.
Among the roads being expanded are Garissa Road, Kenyatta Highway and Karatina Road among others in the town.
The Engen, BAT and Gatitu junctions are set to be expanded too to give room for the huge number of vehicles using the roads.
