Electronics East Africa has unveiled "Galaxy Tab A", a 4G-enabled
mid-range tablet that offers outstanding performance, classy features
and a more comfortable viewing experience. In addition, it comes with an
enhanced S-pen that will give users a realistic handwriting/drawing
experience for a more convenient way to stay creative and productive on
the go helping the user to be able to multi-task and have efficiency.
Samsung Galaxy Tab A will include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 1.2 GHz 64-bit quad-core processor, an XGA TFT-LCD touch screen with a resolution of 1024 x 768, 1.5 GB of RAM, 16 GB or 32 GB of expandable storage space, and up to 128 GB of microSD card support. It has up to 100 GB OneDrive cloud storage for a maximum of two years. It also has a 5-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front camera. The device will also run on the Android 5.0.2 Lollipop out of the box, based on the same report by Digitimes. The tablets will reportedly include a software bundle that consists of Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint and Microsoft Excel.
The 8-inch model measures 137.9 x 208.4 x 7.5 mm. Its Wi-Fi version weighs 334 grams while the LTE-enabled version weighs 338 grams.
The 9.7-inch model measures 166.8 x 242.5 x 7.5 mm. The Wi-Fi version weighs 487 grams while the LTE-enabled version weighs 490 grams. Christian Post also reported that the 8-inch tablet will include a 4200 mAh battery while the 9.7-inch tablet will include a 6000 mAh battery.
Users can choose between Ivory White and Smokey Blue tones. The tablet is also equipped with a Kids Mode and a Multi-User Mode. The Tab A does not feature 3G or 4G connectivity, but has Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.
The tablet is expected to be sold at $292 for the 8-inch Wi-Fi model, $353 for the 9.7-inch Wi-Fi model, $418 for the 8-inch LTE-enabled model and $483 for the 9.7-inch LTE-enabled model.
