Macadamia farmers drawn fromseven counties around the Mt Kenya region are finally reaping the fruits of their labour after receiving 350 million shillings in Company. Jungle Nuts Managing director Patrick Kimani says the highest paid farmers in this year’s bonuses will earn 700,000 shillings doubling the amount they earned last year. The bonuses from Jungle Nuts Company which is more than double what the farmers received last year. MD Kimani says in a bid to weed out the unscrupulous middlemen who have been exploiting macadamia farmers in the country, they have adopted an electronic buying system that will enable the company to deal with the farmers directly. And as the macadamia trade continues to grow in the country, the company intends to start a Sacco to help farmers improve their lives and secure loans at better rates. TheFramers are drawn from counties such as Murang’a, Kiambu, Embu, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Tharaka and Meru
