BRING BACK OUR LAND, JUA KALI ARTISANS DEMAND
Kiambu Jua Kali Association
chairman, Karanja Kamau now wants the Gatuanyaga and Gatundu jua kali lands
that were grabbed reverted to the public.
Kamau claimed that there were
powerful individuals who had grabbed a section of the two lands thereby
disrupting operations of the artisans.
“Jua kali lands in Gatuanyaga and
Gatundu Town have been grabbed by individuals who intend to develop them,” said
Kamau.
Speaking to jua kali artisans in
Thika Town, Kamau said the association will seek to reclaim all the grabbed
land back.
“We will not watch as the businesses
of Kiambu youths collapse because of these powerful individuals,” said the
chairman.
He stated that the association will
use all means possible to get back the grabbed lands.
“We will use all means to ensure no
land is grabbed and that which has been grabbed reverted to the public,” said
Kamau.
He called on the county government
of Kiambu to revoke the title deeds of the concerned plots as they have been
acquired illegally.
He also urged the county government
to be tough on land grabbing saying any development on public land should be
for the benefit residents.
“Most of the youth who don’t proceed
with formal education venture into the jua kali sector. Those who grab such plots
deny them their right to acquire skills that will help them in future,” he
said.
Kamau further urged youth to enroll
in jua kali Sector to acquire skills that will help them improve their lives.
