The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has identified seven students believed to be connected to the tragic dormitory fire at Utumishi Girls Academy that claimed the lives of 16 learners.
According to investigators, forensic analysis of Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) footage played a crucial role in tracing the suspects. The analysis reportedly revealed the movements and actions of the students before and during the incident, leading detectives to focus on seven learners.
Six of the identified students are currently in police custody and are assisting investigators with the ongoing probe. Authorities are also searching for a seventh student who had earlier been released into the care of her parents but is now required for questioning.
The deadly fire, which shocked the nation, has renewed concerns over student safety and security in learning institutions. Investigators are working to establish the exact circumstances that led to the blaze and determine whether criminal actions were involved.
The DCI has assured the public that investigations are at an advanced stage and that all those found responsible will face the full force of the law.
Families of the victims continue to seek answers as the country mourns the loss of the 16 students who perished in one of the most devastating school tragedies in recent years.
