Why Thika Town will experience low water supply for the next seven days

Residents and businesses in Thika town and its surrounding neighborhoods will experience reduced water supply for the next seven days following a planned maintenance exercise by the Thika Water and Sewerage Company Limited (THIWASCO).

In a public notice dated 6th February 2026, the water utility announced that it is conducting essential maintenance on a main pump that serves several parts of the town. The maintenance is scheduled to run from February 6 to February 12, 2026, a period during which customers should expect low water pressure and intermittent supply.

THIWASCO explained that the maintenance works are aimed at improving the reliability of water supply, reducing unplanned breakdowns, and ensuring more consistent service delivery in the future.

The affected areas include Thika Central Business District (CBD), Section 2, Section 9, Riverside, Naidu, JAMOFOSTA Estates, Kimathi, Biafra, Thika High School and adjacent areas.

During the maintenance period, water will be supplied through a standby pump, which may not sufficiently meet normal demand. As a result, some areas are likely to experience prolonged low pressure or temporary interruptions.

The company has advised customers to store water in advance and use it sparingly throughout the seven-day maintenance period.

THIWASCO apologised for the inconvenience caused and reiterated that the exercise is necessary to enhance service delivery. Residents with inquiries have been encouraged to reach out to the company through its official customer service lines.
