Former Kiambu County Governor Ferdinand Waititu has returned to court asking a judge to reduce his bail conditions, saying the current requirement has been nearly impossible to meet.
Waititu’s legal team told the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court that it has been seven months since bail was granted, but he has still not been able to secure the bank guarantee of KSh 53.5 million that the court initially ordered for his release.
The defense argued that since Waititu has consistently appeared in court and is not a flight risk, the focus should be on whether the bail terms remain fair and reasonable. They proposed that the amount be cut to KSh 20 million, or alternatively that he be allowed to post equivalent security such as land or vehicles instead of a bank guarantee.
But the State pushed back, with prosecutors telling the court that Waititu has not shown any compelling new reasons to justify changing the original bail conditions. They also noted that the KSh 20 million figure was initially mentioned in earlier discussions but was dropped before being reintroduced in the latest request.
The court is expected to rule on the matter on February 18, 2026.
