Thika Gymkhana hosts historic FASU All-African University Tennis Tournament

Thika was on the continental sporting map on Sunday 5th October 2025 as Thika Gymkhana Club proudly hosted the Federation of African Sports Universities (FASU) All-African University Games – First Edition Tennis Tournament. The tournament marked a new milestone in university sports, showcasing not only skill and sportsmanship but also the growing role of sports in uniting African youth.

The event brought together a vibrant mix of universities from Kenya and Uganda, including Mount Kenya University, Makerere University, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture, University of Eldoret, University of Nairobi, Technical University of Mombasa, United States International University, Daystar University, Uganda Christian University and Maseno University.

Players displayed impressive energy and determination, proving that Africa’s universities are nurturing a pool of promising talents ready to shine on bigger stages. Beyond the courts, the tournament was a celebration of collaboration, diversity and the shared vision of strengthening university sports across the continent.

University sport officials hailed the tournament as a step in the right direction for growing young talent. Tennis, often seen as an elite sport, is steadily gaining popularity among students, with institutions investing more in facilities and training. By creating platforms like FASU Games, organisers believe that student-athletes will have greater opportunities to showcase their abilities, inspire others and open doors to professional careers.

The day’s matches were competitive yet spirited, with cheers from fellow students filling the air, creating an electric atmosphere that reflected both pride and unity. For many participants, it wasn’t just about winning, but about building lasting friendships and strengthening bonds across universities and nations.

Hosting the first edition of this continental tennis tournament underscored Thika Gymkhana’s position as a premier sporting hub. Located within Section 9 estate, Thika Gymkhana offers advanced facilities for tennis, badminton, chess, a football academy, swimming, gym training, among others.

It also provides versatile spaces for events, cementing its reputation as a home for both sporting excellence and community growth.

With this successful tournament, Thika Gymkhana has not only written a new chapter in African university sports but also reaffirmed its commitment to nurturing talent and providing a platform where champions are made.
