Police Corporal, 72 Civilians Arrested After Guns are Stolen from a Thika Patrol Base
Police in Thika East have launched a major manhunt following the theft of two rifles and ammunition from the Maguguni Patrol Base under Ngoliba Police Station.
Central Regional Police Commander Samuel Ndanyi confirmed that the incident was reported early on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, after officers on duty discovered that firearms were missing from the station’s armoury.
Initial investigations revealed that the padlock securing the armoury door had been tampered with. Upon gaining entry, officers found that a steel box containing weapons had been broken into.
According to Commander Ndanyi, the stolen items include one AK-47 rifle with two fully loaded magazines holding 60 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, and one G3 rifle with a loaded magazine of 20 rounds, two empty magazines, and an additional 96 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.
Following the discovery, a police corporal and 72 suspects have been arrested for questioning as multi-agency teams intensify efforts to trace the missing weapons.
Commander Ndanyi appealed to members of the public to remain vigilant and share any information that could help in the swift recovery of the stolen firearms.
“We are treating this as a very serious security breach. Anyone with information, no matter how small, should report it immediately to the nearest police station,” he said.
Security operations continue in the area as detectives pursue all leads in what has been described as one of the most daring thefts from a police facility in the region.

A very serious security breach. Is the cpl the in charge? Where is the in charge, post guard and report office personnel? The incident leaves a lot of questions than answers!
