Uhuru Kenyatta Hosts High-Profile Diplomats and Health Leader at His Residence

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday, July 10, 2025, hosted a series of high-profile courtesy visits at his private residence, engaging in separate meetings with U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Marc Dillard, Amref Health Africa Group CEO Dr. Githinji Gitahi and Dr. Annette Weber, the European Union’s Special Representative for the Horn of Africa.

The visits reflected the former Head of State’s continued involvement in regional and international affairs, particularly in health, diplomacy, and peacebuilding.

Outgoing U.S. envoy Marc Dillard has served in Nairobi through a period marked by both pandemic recovery and democratic transitions.

Shortly after, Kenyatta received Dr. Githinji Gitahi, the globally respected health leader and CEO of Amref Health Africa.

Later, Kenyatta welcomed Dr. Annette Weber, the EU’s Special Representative for the Horn of Africa. The two leaders are understood to have exchanged views on ongoing efforts to enhance peace and stability in the Horn region, with particular focus on Sudan, South Sudan, Ethiopia, and Somalia.

Kenyatta, who has remained active in peace mediation roles since leaving office, continues to serve as a respected voice on regional diplomacy under the African Union and other multilateral forums.

While no official communiqués were released from the meetings, the engagements underscore the former President’s enduring influence and his commitment to advancing Africa’s strategic interests in health, diplomacy, and development.
