Hon. Alice Ng’ang’a Leads Bold Call to “Komesha Dhuluma” in Fight Against Gender-Based Violence

Hon. Alice Ng’ang’a – MP for Thika Town & Head of the Social Protection Committee

In a time when Kenya faces an alarming rise in cases of femicide and gender-based violence (GBV), Hon. Alice Wambui Ng’ang’a has stepped forward with fearless leadership and purpose. As the Member of Parliament for Thika Town and Chair of the Departmental Committee on Social Protection, she is at the forefront of the nationwide Komesha Dhuluma campaign a rallying cry that means “Stop the Harm.”

On July 15, Hon. Alice  Ng’ang’a hosted a powerful community event in Thika to amplify the campaign’s mission, which aims to end the cycle of abuse, silence, and injustice that continues to plague women and girls across the country. The gathering brought together grassroots leaders, women’s groups, young people, survivors, and fellow lawmakers in a show of unity and commitment.

“We must speak with one voice. We must act with one heart. Komesha Dhuluma is not just a campaign it is a revolution of safety, justice, and dignity,” Hon. Alice Ng’ang’a declared passionately at the event.

The campaign, launched earlier this year by the Kenya Women Parliamentary Association (KEWOPA), is backed by the Government of Kenya with a KSh100 million fund to support community-level advocacy through female legislators. Hon. Ng’ang’a has not only embraced this national mandate she has personalized it, taking it to the doorsteps of her people with direct engagement and relentless energy.

Women in solidarity during the Komesha Dhuluma event in Thika, united in the call to end gender-based violence.

At the Thika event, her leadership was both symbolic and practical. She addressed the emotional toll of GBV, the legal gaps that fail victims, and the cultural norms that breed silence. Survivors shared their testimonies, and local leaders pledged support. It was a day of listening, healing, and mobilization.

Her message was firm: gender-based violence must be stopped at all levels from homes to workplaces, schools to churches, rural villages to urban estates.

“Let us teach our sons to protect, not violate. Let us hold abusers accountable whether they are strangers or family. And let us make our homes and communities safe havens, not places of fear,” she urged.

The Komesha Dhuluma campaign stands on three core pillars: strategic policy advocacy, community sensitization, and survivor-centered support. Hon. Ng’ang’a embodies all three, using her voice in Parliament to push for stronger GBV legislation, while also walking hand-in-hand with the people in her constituency to raise awareness and offer support.

While other MPs continue to roll out the campaign across different counties, it is Hon. Alice Ng’ang’a hands-on approach grounded in empathy, courage, and conviction that sets her apart.

She reminded Kenyans that change will not come from government alone, but from the collective power of an awakened society.

“This is our shared battle. No woman should suffer in silence. No girl should live in fear. And no victim should ever walk alone again. Komesha Dhuluma now and forever.”

As the campaign gathers momentum, Hon. Alice Ng’ang’a leadership remains a shining example of what it means to serve not just as a legislator, but as a protector of human dignity and defender of justice.
