Gachagua to Ruto: Stop Being Angry, Kenyans Are Angrier Than You.
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has once again caused a political stir after publicly urging President William Ruto to tone down his anger, saying Kenyans are feeling even more frustrated and angry due to the current economic hardships.
Speaking during a press conference in Nyeri on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, Gachagua said, “Mr. President, you’re angry. But Kenyans are angrier than you. They are hungry, they are broke, and they are disappointed. They deserve understanding, not threats.”
The statement comes days after President Ruto lashed out at recent protests, accusing some leaders and activists of inciting chaos and sabotaging government efforts. His remarks drew criticism, especially among Kenyans who have taken to the streets in recent weeks to oppose the Finance Act and demand better governance.
Gachagua, who has lately been seen distancing himself from some of the administration’s decisions, said that the time had come for leadership that listens rather than lectures. he added.
Political analysts say Gachagua’s remarks reflect a growing rift within the Kenya Kwanza coalition, with some allies allegedly unhappy with the President's inner circle and style of leadership. While the DP has maintained he remains loyal to Ruto, his recent comments appear to echo the sentiments of a restless population facing high taxes and a rising cost of living.
On the ground, Kenyans continue to express their frustrations. Protests have rocked major cities and towns, with youth-led demonstrations gaining momentum through social media platforms. The demand is not just for economic relief, but also for accountability, transparency, and a new style of leadership.
Whether Gachagua’s latest outburst is a calculated political move or a genuine reflection of concern remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: the political temperature in Kenya is rising and so is the public’s impatience.
