EALA Picks Kenya’s Maina Karobia to Steer East Africa's Conflict Resolution Agenda

Arusha, Tanzania – July 2025

Hon. Maina Karobia — Member of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) representing Kenya.

Kenya's Maina Karobia has landed a key leadership role at the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA), after being elected Chairperson of the influential Regional Affairs and Conflict Resolution Committee.

This committee is at the heart of efforts to promote peace, resolve disputes, and deepen regional cooperation among East African Community (EAC) member states. Karobia’s election is seen as a strong vote of confidence in Kenya’s diplomatic clout and his personal leadership in matters of regional integration.

In his new role, Karobia will steer discussions on pressing issues such as cross-border conflicts, refugee concerns, and political tensions—matters that directly impact the lives of millions across the region.

Speaking after his election, Karobia said: “I’m honoured by the trust my colleagues have placed in me. This is a critical time for our region, and I’m ready to lead with purpose, unity, and vision for a peaceful and more integrated East Africa.”

His leadership comes at a time when the region is facing both challenges and opportunities, making this committee’s work more vital than ever.

Maina Karobia gained national attention in Kenya for being one of the youngest politicians elected to EALA, often seen as a youth representative within the party and regional legislative platforms.

He is a close ally of the UDA leadership and President William Ruto, having been endorsed by the party during the 2022 EALA elections.

Before joining EALA, Karobia was actively involved in grassroots and youth politics within the UDA and previously held leadership roles in youth organizations.
