Kiambu Muslims Urge Governor Wamatangi to Fulfill Land and Jobs Promise

Kiambu County Muslim Leaders

Thika, Kiambu County Muslim leaders in Kiambu County have called on Governor Kimani Wamatangi to fulfill a longstanding promise to allocate land in Kisii Estate, Thika, for the construction of religious and community facilities.

Speaking at Masjid Amina Kendi Mosque following Eid al-Adhā prayers, the leaders emphasized the urgent need for a dedicated space to serve the spiritual and social needs of the growing Muslim population in the county.

“Our numbers have grown significantly we are now over half a million Muslims in Kiambu. We need a place whee our people can pray and hold religious functions with dignity,” said Sheikh Adam Khalif, Chairman - Noor Foundation.

The leaders expressed disappointment that, despite repeated assurances from the county leadership, no tangible action has been taken. The land request, specifically for communal use in Kisii Estate, has remained unresolved for years, forcing the community to conduct prayers and events in overcrowded or temporary spaces.

In addition to the land issue, the community also raised concerns over unemployment and underrepresentation in county jobs and leadership roles.

“ Our people are educated. We have doctors, engineers, teachers, and IT experts but we are rarely considered for opportunities in the county administration, ” said said Sheikh Adam Khalif, Chairman - Noor Foundation.

“All we’re asking for is fairness. Let Muslims be represented like every other community.”

The Muslim leaders urged Governor Wamatangi to act swiftly and engage directly with the community to ensure their concerns are addressed before frustrations escalate.

“We supported the governor during his campaign because he made us promises about jobs, about inclusion, about land. We are here to remind him that those promises still matter,” added Sheikh Muktar Adan, CIPK - Kiambu County Chairman.

The call comes at a crucial time for Governor Wamatangi, as public trust and inclusivity are becoming increasingly important political metrics ahead of the 2027 general election.

At the time of publishing, Governor Wamatangi’s office had not issued a formal response.
