MKU becomes the second Kenyan University to implement the STEP programme.

Mount Kenya University has moved a notch higher in student empowerment by becoming the second University in Kenya after Kenyatta University to implement Student Training in Enterpreneurship Promotion (STEP) program. 

Ten members of Staff from MKU completed a weeklong STEP training and were Certified as Trainers of the STEP. The funding will enable the MKU team together with two members of staff from Kenya National Commission for UNESCO (KNATCOM) to recruit 200 students and take them through 12 weeks of STEP entrepreneurship training between January and March 2018.

The unique aspect of STEP is that, during the 12 weeks of training, the students will be taught “using real money, in real business, and in real time”.

The University appreciates support from Leuphana University. STEP programme was jointly developed by Leuphana University and Makerere University Business School (MUBS) in 2009 and has spread to several developing countries across the globe. In Kenya, STEP is delivered in a tripartite partnership that includes the university delivering it, LeuphanaUniversity (Germany) and the Kenya National Commission for UNESCO (KNATCOM – UNESCO).
