Thika Businessman Charged With Defiling A 2-Year Toddler

A Thika-Based businessman was Tuesday arraigned in a Thika court for defiling a 2-year-old girl.

Ezekiel Mbugua Njuguna, a father of one and married to one wife, was accused of defiling the minor in Makongeni Estate Phase 6 on 7th January 2016 at around 2:30pm.

Before Senior Principal Magistrate Abdul Kadir Lorot, the court heard that Njuguna, who was then a neighbour to the victim and operates a general shop nearby, lured the young girl into his bed and defiled the minor contrary to Section II of the Sexual Offences Act No. 3 of 2006.

His lawyer pleaded with the court to postpone the case to a later date to allow him go through the charges since he had just taken over the case.

Prosecution Counsel (DPP) Aswan Dorothy had no objection but requested the court to expedite the case in the best interest of the child.

Hon. Lorot fixed the hearing of the case on 24th March 2016 and allowed the child to testify through an intermediary due to its tender age.

The accused was released on a Sh. 300,000 bond plus a surety of the same.
