POLICE OFFICER ORDERED TO PAY SH 4,500 FOR DAUGHTER'S UPKEEP
Thika Resident Magistrate Esther Mburu has ordered Mr. Martin Mwangi, a 33-year-old police officer to remit Sh.4,500 monthly to his estranged wife Joyce Makena as upkeep money for their three-year-old first born daughter.
Mr Mwangi had been accused of neglecting his family prompting Ms Makena to seek for legal redress against the husband whom she accused of failing to fulfill his family obligations.
Ms Makena had also filed a suit against her husband seeking custody of the child who was born as the two cohabited in 2014. The daughter has been living with Mr Mwangi's mother.
During preliminary hearing of the case in September 14, the magistrate rejected an earlier amount that Ms Makena was demanding saying the money was too high for the police officer.
Mwangi was allowed to appeal against the court ruling within 14 days.
