KeNHA Announces Temporary Closure on Thika Superhighway
The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced a temporary traffic disruption at the Globe Roundabout along the Thika Superhighway (A2) to pave the way for reinstatement works at the Nairobi River bridge.
In a public notice dated March 12, 2026, KeNHA informed
motorists that the affected section of the highway will be partially closed
from Thursday, March 12, 2026, to Thursday, March 19, 2026.
According to the Authority, the temporary closure is
necessary to facilitate technical investigations and stabilisation works at the
Nairobi River bridge near the Globe Roundabout.
Alternative Routes for Motorists
To minimise inconvenience, KeNHA has outlined alternative routes for motorists during the closure period:
• Traffic heading to Nairobi CBD from Thika will use the Globe Overpass.
• Motorists from Thika accessing University Way will be redirected to Prof. Wangari Maathai Road.
• Drivers traveling from Thika to Kirinyaga Road and OTC have been advised to use Ring Road.
• Traffic from Kipande Road heading to the CBD will use Limuru Road (Fig Tree area) before joining Prof. Wangari Maathai Road.
• Motorists from University Way or CBD intending to make a U-turn at Globe Roundabout towards Thika have been directed to use the Guru Nanak U-Turn instead.
KeNHA indicated that additional traffic control measures,
including lane management and diversions, may be introduced as works progress.
The Authority has urged motorists to exercise caution
when approaching the work zones and to strictly adhere to the proposed traffic
management plan. Drivers are also advised to cooperate with police officers and
traffic marshals deployed on site to ensure smooth flow of vehicles and enhance
safety.
The temporary disruption is part of ongoing efforts to
maintain and improve critical infrastructure along one of the country’s busiest
highways.
