Three mobile phone snatchers arrested in a police ambush at Njomoko area
Officers from Ngoingwa Police Station stepped up patrols and surveillance after receiving intelligence that a group of suspects was using a motorcycle to snatch mobile phones from unsuspecting members of the public before speeding off.
Acting on the information, the officers mounted a coordinated ambush along the identified route. The operation bore fruit when a motorcycle carrying three male suspects arrived from the Juja direction. Police swiftly intercepted the riders and arrested all three, who are aged between 22 and 24 years.
A search at the scene led to the recovery of a toy pistol, which investigators believe was being used to threaten and intimidate victims during the robberies.
Further interrogation revealed that the suspects are residents of a different neighbourhood in Nairobi County and had been travelling to Thika West specifically to carry out the phone snatching incidents.
The three suspects are currently in police custody as investigations continue, with the recovered toy pistol secured as an exhibit.
