Boy, 9, mauled by hyenas in Witeithie


Grief has engulfed residents of Nyacaba village, Witeithie Ward in Juja after a 9-year old boy was mauled by a pack of hyenas.

Njoroge Mariga, who is a Grade 3 pupil went missing on Thursday night.

It was not until this morning when his his clothes were found in a nearby bush by quarry workers were reporting to work. Only a few bones were recovered from the scene.

This is the fifth incident of hyena attacks and deaths in Juja and Thika areas for the past few months. In February this year, a 35-year old man has been mauled by a pack of hyenas at Athi village in Juja, barely two months after a similar incident was reported in the area.

Earlier, a 29-year old man was mauled by the hyenas at Muthaara village within the same constituency as he was leaving a nearby quarry at around 7:45 am.

Barely a day later, police in Makongeni Thika have discovered a fresh human skull believed to be as a result of another suspected hyena attack at Kang'oki area who found the skull at his farm in Kandara Investment Scheme.
