"No member will lose any deposit" - Gakuyo assures members as he starts refunds programme.
Ekeza Sacco Chairman David Kariuki Ngari (Gakuyo) has drawn a 5-phase timeline to refund Sh 2.4 billion owed to its members.
Gakuyo anticipates that the exercise will take a maximum of two years given the nature of liquidation strategy he is implementing.
The first bunch of 1,500 members who had saved Sh 5,000 downwards will be sorted out by the end of this week.
Those owed up to Sh 20,000 deposits will be next followed by those with up to Sh 50,000, then those with up to Sh 200,000. The others will then be addressed.
“No member will lose any deposit. We are disposing of our assets to get money and continue pursuing those who owe us. We are also seeking out strategic partners to revive our businesses. All we seek is patience and understanding,” he said.
All those who have saved sh. 5,000 and below have already been notified to report at his Calvary Chosen Centre Evangelical Church in Thika for the refunds.
