An 82-year old granny in Kirwara, Gatanga Constituency Murang'a County has been brutally murdered within her compound in what is suspected to be connected to a land dispute with her kins.
The deceased, Lydia Wanjiru Chege, died while at St. Mulumba Hospital Thika.
According to her grandson Francis Chege, a neighbour stumbled upon the deceased while writhing in pain at a spot where she had been dumped by unknown assailants on the night of Sunday.
It is believed that she had been raped and acid poured on her face before she was left for the dead.
"She seemed to have been hit on the head using a blunt object since she had visible injuries. They also doused what we think is some acid since her skin had peeled off from one side of her face probably out of acid burns," narrated Francis.
Family members rushed her to Thika Level 5 Hospital and later transferred to St. Matias Mulumba Mission Hospital in Makongeni area where she succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment.
All finger point to family dispute revolving the land in which she called home.
"There has been a longstanding family dispute here involving this land. She reported several previous attacks to the area chief," added his grandson.
Three suspects who included the deceased's co-wife, were arrested in connection to the incident but were later released.
The family is now calling on the police to expedite investigations so as to ensure that the perpetrators of this heinous act were brought to book.
