Bodaboda operators torch 2TS matatu that killed colleague in collision.
Rowdy bodaboda operators in Kiganjo Estate Thika on Saturday
night burnt a 2TS matatu after it hit a bodaboda rider along the along Thika-Kiang’ombe
road near Blue Nile factory.
The accident occurred at around 2130hrs involving the
14-seater matatu registration KBH 565Q and a motorcycle registration no. KMEL
464X.
According to eyewitness reports, the matatu was heading
towards Kiang’ombe from Thika town and on reaching at the scene of accident,
collided with the motorcycle heading towards the opposite direction.
The rider, 18-year old Wilson Kamande Mwangi was seriously
injured and died on his way to Thika Level Five Hospital.
Twelve passengers who were aboard the matatu sustained
varied injuries that included some fractured legs, chest injuries, bruises on
the face and other body parts.
They were all treated and discharged.
The two traffic officers who reported at the accident scene were
overpowered by the rowdy bodaboda riders who set the matatu on fire in revenge
of their colleague.
Both the matatu and the motor-cycle were later towed to Thika
Police Station.
The body of the deceased is at General Kago Road Funeral
Home.
