2 men arraigned in court over assassination plot to eliminate trader.

Two men have been arraigned in a Kandara court with illegal possession of a gun and threatening to kill a Gatanga trader.
The two, Davis Kimani Njuguna alias ‘Bright’ and Joseph Mwangi Wairimu (‘Vice’) denied five counts among them threatening to kill Gatanga businessman Amos Karanja and members of his family between May 9th and June 23th this year.
The accused were also charged with demanding Sh 400,000 from Karanja by sending text messages to his mobile phone with threats of injury to the complainant and members of his family if the demand was not complied with.
They were faced with another count of being found in possession of a Ceska pistol serial number B442722 and two rounds of ammunition without a firearm certificate at Kirwara in Murang’a county on June 24th.
Njuguna was separately charged with being found in possession of a national identity card bearing the name of Samuel Muigai Kirika.
They were remanded by Kandara senior magistrate Manuela Kinyanjui who fixed the case for hearing on October 2nd.
They will appear in the same court for mention of their cases on July 18th.
On Monday the two had denied five counts of robbery and murder before Thika Chief Magistrate Teresa Murigi after the prosecution told the court they are to face additional charges in a Murang'a court today.
They were charged with robbing Thika-based nurse Charity Wanjiru of her Toyota Vanguard car valued Sh 2.4 million at her Ngoingwa home in Thika and shooting her to death on June 12th this year.
Another count stated that on the same date the accused robbed Wanjiru's husband Dr Kagimbi Kimani, a Murang'a surgeon, of his mobile phone and injured him by shooting him several times.
They also allegedly robbed two other people; Anthony Njau and Joseph Karanja of their vehicles, cash and other belongings.
The accused are set to appear again before the Thika court on Wednesday (tomorrow) for additional charges and further directions on bond terms.
