Police in Thika have arrested one suspect and seize 150 rolls of bhang with a street value of 10,000 shillings.

The suspect, James Kamau, was nabbed at Umoja estate during a crackdown on narcotic drugs and illicit brews in an operation by officers drawn from Makongeni Police Station.

Confirming the arrest, Thika OCPD Willy Simba acknowledged that the public had tipped-off the police making the arrest of the suspect possible.

“Police officers on a tip off from members of the public raided house at Umoja estate on Tuesday and after a search they managed to net 150 rolls of bhang with a street value of Ksh. 10,000 and arrested one suspected," said Simba.

Simba said drug trafficking remains a major headache for security officers in Thika adding that police will not rest until the region is drug-free. He noted that police have intensified patrols and crackdowns in all drug dens within the town and appealed for cooperation from public in war on drugs.

The OCPD added that suspect will be arraigned in court on Wednesday on charges of handling and selling illicit drug.
