Kabete MP Ferdinand Waititu (Baba Yao) appears poised
to bag the crucial Jubilee Party ticket this month for the Kiambu gubernatorial
seat if the latest opinion poll is anything to by.
A survey conducted by Intellectus Consultancy (IC) projects
that the newly formed political alliance dubbed ‘United 4 Kiambu’
would garner majority of votes in the populous county if at all elections
were held today.
If replicated at the General Elections, 61% of Kiambu
residents would vote for Waititu while incumbent governor William
Kabogo would garner 33% of the votes cast.
According to the polls, Waititu dominates in 41 wards
against Kabogo’s 19.
While releasing these findings at a Nairobi hotel yesterday,
IC Director Kennedy Mwangi said the new political re-alignment had shaped the
county’s politics by championing the MP to unseat Kabogo during the
April 21, primaries.
Last month, Rev David Kariuki Ngari alias Gakuyo, Food Security consultant James
Nyoro, trader John Mugwe and businesswoman Aquiline Njoki dropped
their bid and vowed to support Waititu bid for the top seat.

“The findings indicate that the outfit would garner 61% of the votes if elections were held today. The
incumbent would come in second with 33% of the votes cast,” said Mwangi.
However, the survey shows that some residents support Kabogo’s re-election bid, lauding him for his efforts
in improving health, roads and the business sectors.
“They particularly singled out refurbishment of health facilities and provision
of modern equipment in most hospitals,” said ICs lead researcher Bernard
Nyikuli.
He continued: “His supporters also view him as a no push over saying his high
handedness as a leader works for him”.
The survey was conducted between March 27 and 31 and the methodology
applied targeted 1,800 registered voters in all the wards in the
county. The research was conducted through door-to-door interviews.
