Prominent Thika businesswoman Joyce Wambui Githitu was given a heroic send off on Wednesday after local businessmen and women, politicians and residents closed shop to attend her requiem service at ACK Thika Cathedral.

In a heartwarming gesture of community spirit, jammed the cathedral to the brim with everyone singing praises of her king heart and contribution to the good of the populace.

However, speaker after speaker, the leaders called for justice for Joyce who was assassinated by criminals inside her Maki home on the night of Monday last week.

“It will not be ideal to shed tears for our fallen mom if we don’t pick a lesson from her life on earth. We need to emulate her way of life. As we celebrate International Women’s Day today, we celebrate our mother Joyce Wambui who was more than a friend and a parent to many of us,” said Thika Town MP Alice Wambui Ng’ang’a.

She reckoned that her killers must have schemed this evil plot for quite some time as the manner she lost her life was very well execute. She appealed to the authorities to get to the bottom of this case and ensure that Joyce’s killers were made to suffer for their evil deed.

“It is everyone’s wish and prayer that the real mastermind and the actual killer of Mama Mercy will be apprehended and brought to book. We would also want to know the reason why they had to eliminate mama,” she added.

Former area MP, who is also aspiring for Kiambu Senatorial seat Hon. Stephen Ndichu described the Kenyan police force as the best in Sub-Saharan Africa. However, he was wary that corruption may lead to the perpetrators going scot-free.

“As much as we praise the police for the swift action in this case that has seen seven people in custody, we are worried that we may not get to the bottom of it due to corruption. We lost our former MP George Thuo in the hands of criminals but nothing has yet to come out of his death. The Late Joyce’s husband Peter Githitu was also slain and nobody was ever found culpable as far as the public is concerned.

Kiambu gubernatorial candidate Ferdinand Waititu expressed his condolences to the family, friends and the entire Thika community for the loss of a gem that had touched the lives of many. He challenge them to emulate her and make sure all that she stood for did not go with her.

The Late Joyce Wambui was born on 8th August 1958 in Chomo, Murang’a County, being the fourth born to Late Mr. & Mrs. Benson Murigi Njuguna. She joined Chomo Primary School in 1965 and later Equator High School in Thika for her O-Level education.

In 1978, she was employed at Kenya Nut Company Ltd in Thika before joining her husband Peter Githitu in his business. She assumed the mantle of their business empire after her husband’s demise in the brutal hands of assassins in 2007.
