DCI’s Homicide Unit have taken over investigations into the
abduction, torture and murder of Kiru Boys High School principal Solomon
Mwangi. The elite police unit are said to have taken over from the Murang'a
County Directorate of Criminal Investigations on the instructions of Director
Ndegwa Muhoro.
The mutilated body of the principal was discovered by a
guard dumped in a coffee plantation on Friday. The guard alerted officers at
Juja Police Station and the body was moved to City Mortuary. Detectives from
the Homicide and the Criminal Investigation department visited the scene where
the body of the murdered Murang’a teacher was found and unearthed crucial
links.
According to the Murang’a North Sub-County Criminal
investigations Officer Japheth Maingi, they have established that his body was
ferried to Karuntuma Farm in Witeithie, Juja Sub-County Kiambu County via a
vehicle whose tyre marks measurements they have already taken for further
investigations.
Maingi said that they have, in their custody, a Toyota
vehicle which they suspect was used to ferry the body and have also taken some
samples from the vehicle for forensic investigations.
“Our forensics experts have taken samples from the vehicle
to ascertain whether there is connection between the vehicle and the body,”
said Maingi adding that they have taken DNA samples from the scene which will
be used in their investigations.
His widow Jane Muthoni is being held. Police call her the
prime suspect but say other people were involved. Investigators had been
working to find out why the wife reported the matter at Kasarani Police Station
instead of Gatundu, which is near her residence. They are also trying to find
out if a police officer at the Nairobi-based police station is involved in the
saga.
A taxi driver whose vehicle is believed to have been used to
transport the dead principal to Juja has since been questioned by police who
are now looking for a teacher and other people who played part in the killing.
Maingi said that they have arrested the wife who is said to
have escorted the husband on the last day before meeting his death.
“According to the report which we were given by his wife,
Jane Muthoni Mbuthi, she escorted him to Witeithie stage and left him to go
back to school but he never reached there. The court has granted us one week to
detain her in custody so that she may not to interfere with our investigations.
She will appear at the Murang’a high court on November 21, 2016 to answer to murder
charges,” said Maingi.
The principal is said to have left the school on Sunday 6th
November accompanied by his wife in a Toyota vehicle heading to Ichachiri
Secondary School in Gatundu where the wife is the principal. It concerned those
around him when he went missing though he ought to have gone to collect his
school’s KCSE examination and a report
was consequently made to Kiria-ini police station.
“According to what we saw, the body had a string tied to the
neck, teeth were knocked out and his hands were tied from behind. Further medical
examination will be conducted to ascertain if he was tortured,” he concluded.
