Madaraka Trader In Court Over MCA's House Arson.

A Madaraka Market business lady was Monday morning arraigned in a Thika court for arson and malicious damage of property.

Mary Wamuyu Gatumu was accused of willingly and unlawfully setting on fire the residence house of Elizabeth Muthoni Hussein, her Toyota Premio car and 500 crates of sodas, all valued at Ksh. 150million, on the 22nd November 2015 in Makongeni Estate Thika, Kiambu County.

Before Chief Magistrate Justice Loise  Komingoi, the court heard that Wamuyu Njuguna, jointly with others not before the court, caused collateral damage to the property of Muthoni, who is the area MCA, contrary to Section 332 (a) (b) of the Penal Code.

Prosecution Counsel Stella Oyugi asked the court to deny the accused any bond arguing that the offense committed was serious and the suspect may escape to evade arrest.

However, her lawyer, Mbiu Kamau pleaded with the court to grant her bail arguing that her offence was bailable and the accused was very cooperative with the authorities since this case began. He added that Wamuyu was well known in Makongeni and there was no way that she could ignore court summons.

Hon. Komingoi fixed the hearing of the case on 31st May 2016.

The accused was released on a Sh. 1million bond plus a surety of the same or a cash bail of sh. 300,000.
