WHY THIKA WAS IN DARKNESS FOR MORE THAN FOUR HOURS.

A fault in the bulk supply transmission system at the Juja substation that occurred at around 4:30pm on Thursday resulted in a power outage affecting the Nairobi, Coast and Mount Kenya regions.

The Juja substation handles mainly power from the Olkaria plants and Seven Folks hydro dams.

The substation suffered a similar failure in April 2014, sending nearly the whole country into darkness for about two hours.

The situation was rectified and power resumed some minutes to 10:00pm at night.

That aside, Thika's CBD has been experiencing frequent power blackouts over the last one week with no reasons given to shed light on the same. Efforts to get answers from KPLC even via their customer care twitter handle has fell on deaf years. No one has even bothered to give an answer, notwithstanding that they run the services at our own expense.
