THE NEGLECTED GARBAGE AT MADARAKA MARKET. (PHOTOS)

Uncollected garbage at Madaraka Market.
As the Swahili proverb says, Ganda la mua la jana chungu kaona kivuno (The skin of yesteday's sugarcane is a havest to an ant), this Chokora and the cows are the main beneficiaries of the uncollected litter.

Since the there emerged a tag of war between the traders of Madaraka Market and the County Government of Kiambu early last year over the Finance Bill, garbage collection has been an issue in this place. The traders have been accusing the of neglecting them due to this issue.

On their part, the County Government has not been collecting any cess or rates from these traders for more than a year now. This has denied them a very big target source of income, considering that this is the biggest open area market in the Mount Kenya Region.

Madaraka Market feeds more than a million people daily, spreading all the way to the Republic of Somalia.
