Police officer shot dead, two passengers stabbed in Kenya Mpya hijack incident.


A police officer who was aboard a Neo Kenya Mpya bus that was heading to Thika town was shot dead by gangsters and his firearm stolen in a hijack incident along the Thika superhighway last night.

Five gangsters are said to have hijacked the bus, ransacking the passengers before one of the gangsters stumbled on the officer’s gun, stabbed him before snatching it and shooting him with it.

The officer is said to be attached to the Ruaraka Police Station in Nairobi.

It is understood that the bus slowed down at the Drive Inn bumps where two men boarded to join three other gang members who had boarded it in city..

On reaching the Garden Estate bumps, the five men among the passengers ordered everyone to lie down and surrender all their valuables. They then ransacked and robbed the passengers all the way to Ruiru Kimbo where the bus turned back towards Nairobi and towards Baba Ndogo area. 

It then drove towards Outering road before slowing down at the National Concrete where the thugs alighted and fled on foot.


As the bus approached NAIVAS the then driver alighted after the passengers demanded it to be driven to a police station. A second person who identified himself as the official bus driver took over and drove it to GSU roundabout.

Two other passengers who were stabbed during the hijacking have being treated at the MSF clinic on Juja Road and are in a stable condition. One of them had been fatally stabbed several times and shot in the neck.

The driver of the bus and his conductor have since been arrested and are helping police with investigations.

The body of the dead officer has been taken to Kenyatta University Funeral Home awaiting postmortem.
