MP launches campaign to connect all Thika residents to power.

Thika Town MP Eng. Patrick Wainaina, with the support from the National Government, has launched an ambitious campaign to connect all his constituents with electricity.

In a circular released to the area residents, the MP is calling on all those whose homes are not yet connected to the national grid to register with his office for assistance.

“Dear Thika Town Constituency Residents, we are calling upon any resident in Thika whose home is not connected to power to register with Clinton 0715499926 ASAP. We are targeting 100% power penetration in Thika,” read part of the circular.

The circular continues by notifying those who had previously filled the forms, to reapply again as some very crucial details had been omitted in the original applications.

The beneficiaries for these connections will be identified through site visits geared towards verifying the information given by the applicants.

Speaking separately to Thika Town Today, Wainaina said that the implementation of this project was in line with the Jubilee Government’s ‘Last Mile Programme’ that aims to light up all homes in the Republic of Kenya.

He noted that the initiative would bring a monumental change in people’s lives as it will boost service provision and create employment.

“Electricity creates opportunities for people to lift themselves out of poverty by stimulating local economies through energy-enabled micro-enterprise development. The success of this initiative will contribute towards Kenya’s Vision 2030 which aims to transform the country into a newly industrialising and provide a high quality of life to all its citizens,” said the Thika legislator.

Various areas in Thika still have difficulties in accessing electricity despite this being a generally urban constituency. Gatuanyaga and Ngoliba Wards are the hardest hit though we too have numerous cases in Kiganjo and Kisii estates notwithstanding the slums of Kiandutu, Gachagi, Umoja and Matharao.
