CROWDS of revelers defied the chilly unpredictable Thika weather this weekend as the Porkies Garden street bash returned to Uhuru Street.

Seems like the organisers of the event  had been watching the forecasts closely all week and when they looked to the sky on Saturday morning their worst fears were realised.

But as the clouds moved on through the afternoon and into the evening Thikarians came out and the party got underway in style.

The crowds were entertained by acts such as the Tusker dancers, with a special spot on the line-up for self acclaimed Ghipuka artist Kenrazy.

The team from East Africa Breweries and Porkies Garden caterers were working hard throughout the event to keep partygoers supplied with their favourite brand of Tusker.

There were many youngsters enjoying the atmosphere of the occasion and the organisers pulled out all the stops to keep them occupied Kenrazy put up a serious half an hour performance for the revellers.

Shakie Wainaina first decided to put on a street party at Porkies Garden close to two years ago and when  close to 1,400 people turned out on an ordinary Saturday afternoon they knew the demand for a street bash was there - the Porkies Garden Street Bash was born.

One half of the organising duo, Deejay Geo rges, said: “This is the first time since Porkies Garden opened its doors in Thika  that we’ve had rain but the people have still come out for it which is great.
“It’s been a success from our point of view, the rain has probably hit the numbers a bit but everyone’s having a great time – it’s just a really great day in the streets of Thika.

Persistent showers have fallen for much of the day and threatened to turn the occasion into a sodden washout.
