There was a time when the thought of launching a startup would be viewed by even the most experienced business minds with an air of caution and trepidation. Not anymore.

Starting a business from scratch sounds a bit intimidating but Broadwalk Limited, is offering Kiambu residents a very rare opportunity to become franchisees with Seven 2 Seven®, and become part of a brand that has the ingredients to rapidly grow not just into a successful national brand, but also into a world class international brand.

A franchise is a privilege or right officially granted to offer specific products or services under explicit guidelines at a certain location for a declared period of time. This arrangement saves the young entrepreneur the headaches of getting started on your own.

“Our vision is to pioneer the concept in Kiambu County and Nairobi County with 50 outlets and swiftly expand operations to other counties. This innovative approach into the informal retail sector will directly empower the communities involved and develop more seasoned young entrepreneurs,” explained the group’s CEO Zack Mukeva.

In this arrangement Seven 2 Seven® will take care of location identification, licensing, store set-up and equipment installation.

All the franchisees will also be taken through this training program before being allocated an outlet and will receive regular refresher training throughout the early stages of their business venture. Cumulatively, the training will equip a large number of youth with retail skills thereby gradually reducing the existing retail skills gaps.

The training will touch on the Point of Sale technology, entrepreneurial skills on how to run and manage a businesses, Financial concepts in various subject areas including Savings, Budgeting and book keeping; food hygiene in line with the business activity; knowledge, skills, and competencies required to increase customer satisfaction; and Brand knowledge.

In this way, the group will to harness and hone entrepreneurship skills and give lucky entrepreneurs a chance to successfully run their own businesses.

“The devolved system is at the center of the project rollout plan therefore we aim at aligning our locations with the County Integrated Development Plans and Urban Plans. Though we are looking at using privately owned spaces for the Seven to Seven® outlets, for us to be able to franchise low income individuals mostly the youth it is inevitable that we will place a large number of our outlets in public spaces such as bus parks, along county roads and market areas,” added Mukeva.

The company plans to initially rollout in Nairobi, Kiambu, Machakos, Murang’a, Nakuru, Nyeri and Meru Counties before setting up stalls countrywide.

“We want to bring the fun and ease back into shopping and this can only be possible if shoppers get what they want, when they want it and at the price they want. We call on you to support us to finally bring convenience to the Kenyan people while at the same time improving the livelihood of those working with us and the communities around them,” said Nishant Bhatt, the company’s General Manager - Operations.

The notion of franchising is new to Kenya; however, is certainly the future of retail.

Among the items for sale will include popular brands of sugar, bread, flour and other baking goods, milk and dairy products, cooking oil, mineral water, soft drinks and other beverages, snacks, soap and detergents, toiletries and cleaners as well as airtime among other products.
