FORMER NAIROBI MAYOR DICK WATHIKA IS DEAD

Former Nairobi mayor Dick Wathika died last night with reports indicating he passed on while he was being rushed to Karen hospital. 

The cause of his death is yet to be made public.

Dick Mwangi Wathika was a former mayor of Nairobi and a a one-time MP for Makadara Constituency. 

He was elected Nairobi Mayor in July 2004, and re-elected again in 2006.

In 2007, he successfully vied for the Makadara Constituency parliamentary seat on a PNU ticket. 

His 2007 election to Nairobi's Makadara Constituency was annulled on 30 April 2010 by Lady Justice Kalpana Rawal, who said the electoral process was marred by irregularities. She told a packed court that Mr Wathika was not validly elected.

The by-election was held on 20 September 2010 where he lost to Gideon Mbuvi Kioko (Mike Sonko) of NARC-Kenya. Another former MP, Reuben Ndolo of ODM, came a distant second while Wathika was third.
