A REASON TO SMILE FOR OFAFA MAFURIKO AFTER A WEEKEND OF EL NINO SCARE

As a follow up activity to his last week's promise to look into the grievances of Ofafa Mafuriko flood woes, Hospital Ward MCA Hon. Mwangi Wamwangi (J. BEE) spent the whole of Wednesday morning clearing the drainage and unblocking the blocked sewer.

True to his word, he came in person and made sure that he organised the area youth to do the work. First they had to dig out the silt that had been deposited on these trenches by the rain storms. These trash and the soil was then loaded into a track and taken away for dumping.

To ensure a lasting solution to this problem and to make it easier in future to clean the soil deposits in these run off ducts, the MCA organised for them to be cemented. They prepared mortar and cemented these drainages.
Due to the same problem of blocked waterways, some of the houses had their sewers blocked and had started to pose some health risks. J. BEE organised with THIWASCO  sewer department to come and unblock the system. By the time we left the area, the THIWASCO crew had kicked off the clearance works.

Ofafa Mafuriko residents have been living in very poor state as majority of their houses got submerged in rain runoffs everytime there happened to be a heavy downpour due to poor drainage. The problem had been necessitated by the erection of the Mount Kenya University Buildings which interfered with the flow of the storm from Ziwani and Mafuriko areas.
